ZMA Welcomes Cavendish Medical Inductees into the Noble Profession

The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) inducted the newest cohort of Cavendish University MBChB students into the medical fraternity.

ZMA President, Dr. Masiku Phiri, congratulated the inductees and reminded them that the Association expects nothing but exemplary service and professionalism that radiates excellence, as we work to improve the health status of Zambians and contribute to national socio-economic development.

The President further urged the inductees to lead upright lives even beyond the workplace, emphasizing that with the titles they now bear, they sit at the pinnacle of societal expectations.

Speaking at the same event, as he conducted the induction ceremony the ZMA Secretary General, Dr. Innocent Ngwira, announced that the Association will soon introduce an ethics course to train new medical doctors in professional conduct and ethical practice.

Dr. Ngwira explained that the initiative is designed to ensure that as students transition into the medical workforce, they are not only equipped with clinical knowledge but also with the moral and ethical principles required to serve with honor and responsibility.

The Deputy Registrar – Technical Services at the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), Dr. Muhumpu Kafwamfwa, also congratulated the inductees, stressing that medicine is a sacred calling that demands integrity and an upright character.

He highlighted that HPCZ is mandated to protect the public, and therefore, registration with the Council is a legal requirement for all medical practitioners.

Dr. Kamfwamfwa further encouraged the inductees to embrace lifelong learning in alignment with emerging trends in healthcare.

Cavendish University Dean, Dr. Rachel Velu Milomba, congratulated the inductees while thanking parents and guardians for their unwavering support, and the students for their resilience.

ZMA Secretary General, Dr. Innocent Ngwira, then invited the ZMA President to lead the program in the recitation of oaths a powerful symbol of dedication to the noble profession of medicine.

The ceremony was further graced by distinguished leaders including Mr. Reginald Rainey – Executive Director, Professor Welani Chilengwe – Vice Chancellor, Professor Donald Chungu – Deputy Vice Chancellor, Ms. Bertha Phiri – Registrar, Dr. Mzaza Nthele – Assistant Dean.

Congratulations once again to the inductees the future of Zambia’s healthcare rests in your capable hands.
