Access to healthcare is paramount to every human being and often times we underplay the role of the people who provide these services to us. It is against this background that the Zambia Medical Association today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ZSIC Life to provide medical Insurance Cover to its members (Medical Doctors and Dental Surgeons) who are Caregivers. This understanding aims to lighten the burden of the doctors and their immediate families in times of need.
Representing the ZMA President was Secretary General -Dr. Oliver Kaoma. Zambia Medical Association Cooperative was represented by its Board Chairperson -Dr Kevin Zimba. Also in attendance was ZMA Ethics and Professional Board Chairperson-Dr. Innocent Ngwira and Medical Women Association of Zambia President-Dr. Joyce Sakala.Others were ZMAC Vice-Secretary-Dr. Bright Moyo and ZMA Lusaka Chapter Chairperson-Dr. Christina Zulu.
ZSIC life was represented by Managing Director- Mr Collins Hamusonde and Director – Insurance Business-Mr Fackson Ngulube. Others were ZSIC Manager Public Relations- Nabwalya Vlahakis, ZSIC Marketing Manager-Wongani Chandwe and ZSIC Manager Health Insurance- Ms Elizabeth Mofya.
Cubit Insurance brokers was represented by the Chief Executive Officer-Mr Shadreck Banda and Mr Martyn Mashombotwa- Chief Operations Officer.
Dr. Kaoma indicated that this was a great milestone for ZMA and was gladdened that finally members would be able to have easier access to quality medical services. He further expressed confidence in the partnership with ZSIC Life that it would be strong and very efficient. “It is ZMA’s vision to take care of the care givers, we can’t be providing a service that we ourselves have challenges accessing when we are in need”, Dr. Kaoma said.
ZSIC Life CEO, Mr Hamusonde added, ‘it is a privilege to provide care for the Caregivers , we aim to provide comprehensive Insurance Cover and appeal to ZMA members to quickly opt into the scheme’.
Mr Banda highlighted that Cubit Insurance Brokers was honored to play a vital role in bringing the entities together for the need of providing an essential service to the doctors.
