Uncategorized ZMA INDUCTS 124 LUSAKA APEX MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (LAMU) NEWLY GRADUATED DOCTORS INTO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION. by Kenani Mwape September 21, 2022 written by Kenani Mwape The Zambia Medical Association(ZMA), yesterday,21st September,2022 welcomed 124 students in the profession. The induction was held at LAMU Roma Campus in Lusaka. The Ministry of Health(MoH) was represented by MoH Permanent Secretary, Technical Services –Professor Lackson Kasonka, LAMU Deputy Vice-Chancellor-Research – Professor John Mudenda, Dean-Faculty of Medicine-Dr. Yotham Phiri, Directors and heads of department. The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) was represented by HPCZ Senior Inspector Examination and Training-Mr Donald Kalolo. ZMA President Dr. Crispin Moyo and the Association Secretary General-Dr. Kaumba Roy Tolopu as well as Resident Doctors Association of Zambia(RDAZ) Vice President-Dr. Annel Sinkala were in attendance to facilitate this important event. Professor Kasonka congratulated the new doctors, reminded them that it was a beginning of journey which required hardwork, dedication and competence, he encouraged them to be professional in their conduct and be open to work in diverse places to serve the citizens of the country. In addition, Professor Lambart encouraged the inductees to exhibit excellence as one of the values instilled in them by the institution, to be patient centered and objective in their areas of practice and also engage in medical research so as to contribute more effectively to the evolving world problems. Mr. Kalolo encouraged the inductees to ensure they register with the council before starting to practice and familiarize themselves with the professional code of conduct. Inductees were also advised to protect their reputation as they entered a noble profession and uphold the Hippocratic oath. ZMA President applauded the institution for pioneering medical training at a time when offering such services as private institutions was not a lucrative venture to step in. He urged the inductees to work as a team, observe hierarchy, be open to diversify their career path, continuously learn from others in the medical field and reminded the audience that at the heart of the association was the ‘Care for the Carer’ a ZMA initiative made to provide doctors with the best care to patients and to derive optimum levels of job satisfaction, thereby promoting mental and physical health of doctors. Dr. Sinkala said stakeholder engagement remains RDAZ’s mandate and the remains committed to fostering the restructured of internships and deployment to reduce the doctor-patient ratio which currently stands at 1:12000. The inductees were cautioned to observe patient-doctor confidentiality by avoiding the dissemination of patient information on social media as it is disparaging to the profession.Dr.Tolopu led the new doctors in reciting the Hippocratic Oath.
