COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF ASSORTED ITEMS

by Kenani Mwape

In continued efforts to halt the cholera epidemic, ZMA-RDAZ visited major cholera hotspots namely: Katambala and Kalukungu Community markets in George Compound. Community sensitization plays a critical role as it empowers the residents with knowledge on how to fight the disease.

Led by the Association Secretary General Dr Oliver Kaoma, the team – Dr. Simusika, Dr. Njovu, Dr. Paul Chibwe and others educated the residents on:

1. Vaccinations

3. Usage of Chlorine

2. Hand washing- demonstrated

4. How to use and make ORS.

5. Food and personal hygiene.

With the support from Griffins Medicals ltd. and Mum’s Care Hospital, the association distributed various hygiene items to the community.

The association bemoans the unsanitary conditions under which the residents are living. Witnessed selling of food products next to garbage, flooded zones, and mixed sewer waste…and calls on government to ensure there is proper WASH infrastructure in these zones.
